Yann Oulevay Exhibition

1 Feb > 15 Mar 12

I was born in 1975 in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland, and learnt the rudiments of glass blowing at the European Research and Training Glass Arts Centers (CERFAV) in France.

Then I devoted several years to the trade-guild, during which time I attended vocational training courses given by various professors, trained in the art of glass, known as maestros, around the world. This long period of apprenticeship took me through France and Italy (Murano in particular) then to Greece, Denmark and Australia, as well as to the very well-known Pilchuk Glass Summer School in the USA.

At the end of this long and extremely instructive - world tour, I was offered the great opportunity of working for three years as the assistant to Philip Baldwin and Monica Guggisberg, in Nonfoux, Switzerland, who are known throughout the world as leaders in this field of art.

Glass has fascinated me since the age of 18 ... in fact from the time I first met Philip and Monica. What fascinates me most about glass is its soul and all the techniques that can be applied. As a confirmed and recognised artist, I am using the filigree and battuto techniques more and more, all the while developing my own style to create unique glass works, such as vases, plates, glasses, luminaries and decorative objects. I regularly exhibit in many galleries throughout Switzerland as well as abroad, and my talent and capacities are beginning to be recognised. At the same time, I teach at the centres where I learnt all the techniques associated with glass, especially at the CERFAV.

In November 2006 I moved back to Yverdon-les-Bains, my birthplace, where I have opened my first glass studio. In this space of 400 m2, I can not only create but also improve my art and, in addition, can organise exhibitions and artistic exchanges where I hold open days, glass-blowing courses, demonstrations for children, etc.
