Jonathan Wylder22 Dec. > 30 Jan. 08Jonathan Wylder was born in Salisbury, Wiltshire in 1957. He held his first one-man show of paintings in Salisbury City Library in 1973 where Sir Cecil Beaton was his first patron. His sculpture has since achieved increasing critical and artistic acclaim and recognition both nationally and internationally. Since the beginning, Jonathan has been inspired by the beauty of the human form. Sculpting mainly in bronze, through the traditional lost wax process of bronze casting, Jonathan is particularly inspired by the sculptural quality of dance, and has shown his unique skill and love of portraiture in his sculptural work with dancers from a variety of ballet companies, including Fiona Chadwick, former principal with the Royal Ballet. He also has also created many bronze equestrian sculptures. A keen rider himself, he is particularly noted for his life-sized bronze statue of Milton, the international show jumper, as ridden by John Whittaker. In his successful career as a sculptor, Jonathan is further recognised for the prestigious commissions on which he has worked. Most notably, he created a five metre high, bronze statue for Londons Belgrave Square, commissioned by the Duke of Westminster as a tribute to the first Marquis of Westminster. Of great note too, his life-sized memorial portrait of Mother Teresa was unveiled in Calcutta, at the Sisters of Mercy Convent, where it has received thousands of visitors. Jonathan's work can be seen in his exclusive gallery in Knightsbridge, London, where his sculptures and paintings are on permanent exhibition. His limited editions are numbered and cast in bronze, Jonathan's favorite material. He also plans to create one original sculpture cast in gold or silver especially for Adler Jewellers.
