Betsy Ross Koller22 Dec. > 30 Jan. 09Betsy Ross was born in Ohio in 1943. She grew up in the rural hills of SE Ohio amidst the comings and goings of her father's veterinary practice. Her affection and remembrances of her father, the animals he treated, the beauty and virtues of rural life, followed by many years in Switzerland and the Swiss Alps, are the main subjects of her art and writing. While living in Switzerland in the 1970s, Betsy studied Naïve art. What began as a childhood-inspired dream to paint and write, soon turned into a profession, as her Swiss paintings were much in demand. Her first award-winning showing in 1985 launched a series of successful exhibitions in Europe and the U.S. Her works may now be found in museums, galleries and private collections both in America and abroad. She has been a featured artist for Nestlé's Cailler brand for their Holiday collections, and a regular contributor to UNICEF, who uses her art in their greeting card catalogues. One of her works, chosen over hundreds of others, was the cover piece for their 50th anniversary catalogue. She also donates her works to other charitable organizations that fund scholarship programs and other worthwhile causes. Through her exhibits in Switzerland, the Nestlé Co.s premier chocolate product group, Cailler, has used her Swiss Alpine scenes for their holiday packaging. Other corporate sponsors in America have successfully used Betsy's works in a similar manner. Betsy's work is not only colorful and poetic, which reflects her optimistic and cheerful outlook on life, but also whimsically mischievous in her depiction of mostly children and animals at work and play. Betsy now resides and has her Naples studio in Florida. Nevertheless, she regularly travels to and in Switzerland. It is a pleasure for her to once again appear with Adler for her seventh exhibition in Gstaad.
